April Meeting - Tenneco
Tenneco was Hamilton’s ATSSA Sponsor for April. Dean Clarke gave a very informed overview of their product lines. Tenneco is a producer of ‘Walker’ emission control components and ‘Monroe’ Ride control products for light and heavy duty vehicles, a global leading designer, who serves both original equipment manufacturers [OEM] and aftermarket. Tenneco is driven by technologies to meet increasingly stringent emissions and noise regulations as well as the need for better fuel efficiency. Dean showed us a flip chart on the safety triangle inspection. We were shown the signs of worn out shocks, visible, leaking and cupped tire wear. Shocks should be replaced whenever a spring is changed. How to properly check shock temperature was also demonstrated. Questions raised after the presentation were; the importance of the shocks on reducing bushing wear on calipers and the need for using gas charged shocks in helping to reduce vibration. Dean presented those in attendance with a lot of good info for all Fleet Maintenance people to take back to the shop! Sincerely Dave Rutherford !

Monday March 19th, 2012

Haldex graciously stepped in to host & sponsor the March meeting. Mark Weber had a very good presentation on B.M.S. Trailer [Brake Monitoring System] which is one of the newest safety products. B.M.S. uses a warning alarm & prevents the driver from initially driving away with the alarm sounding due to low air pressure or any air leak such at glad hands etc. The biggest concern is to prevent wheel end fires from internal air leakage in Maxi Chambers. B.M.S. is very easy to mount vertical [recommended] with the alarm to the back of trailer. T.R.S. [Trailer Rollover Stability], a Haldex safety product built on the 4S/2M ABS trailer brake system. Speed is a leading factor in rollovers and T.R.S. controls speed at the trailer by constantly monitoring the trailer's movements. When T.R.S. senses that a rollover is imminent, the ECU will apply the service brakes at the trailer to slow and stabilize. Monday January 16th, 2012

Our first meeting of 2012 "Solutions for Transportation Equipment" was sponsored by Tectran and was well attended. Glen Hogg had an excellent presentation on Tectran's new products for Heavy Duty Vehicles. All products are designed to help with preventive maintenance practices. Glen did a demonstration with "Pendilube" a dielectric penetrant/lubricant, he sprayed a light bulb, contacts and bare wiring and then immersed it in water while powered to show us the waterproof surface barrier designed to seal out moisture and creep along & protect metal surfaces and electrical connections under the most demanding of conditions. Displayed and discussed were: Air Power Lines [trailer air hoses] that come boxed completely assembled and are very user friendly to install, control boxes for lift-able steer axles, wheel-end brake stroke indicators, stainless hoses for auto air inflation systems and thermo bolts for trailer hub caps, the purpose of which is if the hub heats up, the bolt will pop out when temperature reaches 250 deg. F. Also to go along with the thermo bolts is thermo white labels that stick to the outside of the hub cap. If temp rises to 250 deg. F, this label turns black. All helpful devices for the driver walk around checks. Glen responded to lots of questions making it a very informative meeting. A free sample of Pendilube was given to all in attendance.

December we had the return of The Warren Burger Charity Auction Sponsored by Transaxle H2Blu & Castrol Heavy Duty Lubricants.

Monday December 19th, 2011

The December meeting was sponsored by Transaxle & Castrol Heavy Duty Lubricants. [smog] and how the product goes thru the manufacturing and delivery process and the proper methods to store. JP Soucie talked on synthetic motor oils with the goal of reducing operating costs, [4% better fuel economy & 3 X OEM drain cycle]. It’s more than oil; it’s liquid engineering.
